“En Famille” Reserve Pinot Noir 2014 Reviews

93 points – Rick VanSickle – Wines in Niagara – August 30, 2016

This is from Joie’s top tier and it lives up to the billing — a highly aromatic nose of rich cherry, incense, toasted barrel spices, caramel and violets. Ripe cherry is the driving force on the palate with silky tannins, integrated spice and plenty of uplifting acidity to keep everything in check. Just a gorgeous, balanced quintessential Okanagan Pinot with its own identity and intrigue.

This is a delicious fruity ripe pinot that is not that complex but is well crafted with a good depth of flavour and fine balance. Expect aromas of black raspberry and plum fruit with nutty and leather notes and delicate oak spice. Midweight to full bodied with good length, just a tad on the flabby side with very mild tannin. Enjoy with a rare steak. Best 2016 to 2018. Tasted August 2016.

A carefully crafted, well-measured pinot noir with a velvety, tannic texture and impressive depth of flavour. The alcohol is nicely restrained and the nose is highly expressive with notes of bramble, toasted almond, tomato leaf, cherry and new leather. The palate offers elegance with fresh but unobtrusive acidity and slight meatiness. Very good length. Best 2017-2019.

Deeper ruby than the previous Pinot; spicy, vanilla oak, ripe cherry and red plum bouquet with a thread of minerality; full-bodied, dry, richly-extracted, vivid fruit flavours, beautifully balanced with great structure.
